This Victorian fob pendant, crafted from rich yellow high-carat gold (testing between 15-18ct), was originally used as a wax seal. The gold features intricate detailing with a sun-ray pattern at the back and additional rays on the sides, drawing the eye into the beautifully carved seal. Set with a warm burnt-orange carnelian gemstone, the seal is inscribed with “BON SOIR,” depicted alongside a hand snuffing out a candle—a symbol of bidding goodnight or farewell.

The pendant’s crowned handle, originally located at the back, has been reimagined in our signature style: carefully removed and repositioned as the pendant’s bail, making it easy to attach to dog clips, bolt rings, and charm holders or layer with other chains. The handle appears to have a small amount of lead filling, a common Victorian reinforcement for wax seals, indicating its original durability for sealing correspondence.

This reworked antique measures 31mm long, 14.5mm wide, and 7mm deep. In very good antique condition, the gold shows minor age-appropriate wear visible only under magnification and a wonderful natural patina due to the age of the piece, enhancing its unique character. Though unmarked, it has undergone professional testing, confirming a gold content of 15-18ct.
