Highlighted in a stunning vibrant blue enamel, the 8-point North Star holds 11 opal cabochons in its centre (0.70cts). We chose the opals to replace the split pearls in this design when converting the star from its original antique brooch form.
The star pendant dates to the Victorian era, and although there are no noticeable hallmarks, the gold tests as 9-carat gold; however, the inside of the star is filled with lead, a practice that was common at the time in order to enhance the durability and weight of the piece. The lead is noticeable from the back of the pendant and when looking closely at the sides, but it is not at all noticeable from the front or when worn. The pendant bails, including the smaller double bail, are all newly made and handcrafted in solid 9-carat gold.
