This one-of-a-kind conversion pendant has been expertly redesigned from its original fob form, retaining the intricate repoussé designs on the 9-carat gold setting to preserve the fob's antique charm while adding a large, chunky 18-carat gold pendant bail, making it a fantastic pendant for everyday wear. The open-back design allows light to travel through the carved carnelian stone, enhancing the gemstone's colour. The pendant bears a beautiful patina on the 9-carat gold, which blends beautifully with the 18-carat pendant bail. A stunning vibrant yellow gold colour, the setting appears to be gilded with a high-carat gold to enhance the colour, which would also explain why the gold purity test results confirm a reading of approximately 12-carat gold. There are some areas where the gilding has faded a little, but the setting is in otherwise wonderful antique condition.
The words above the crowned heart read "LOYAL AND FAITHFUL". In the Victorian era, the image of a crown over a heart symbolised loyalty, fidelity, and enduring love. The heart represented love and emotion, while the crown denoted honour, dignity, and nobility. Together, they conveyed a powerful message of loyal and faithful love, often used in romantic or sentimental jewellery to express deep affection and commitment.
As a fob, this incredible intaglio pendant would have previously been used as a wax seal. You can, of course, still use your intaglio with sealing wax should you so choose.
