A beautifully collectable vintage Cartier Trinity ring in 18ct tricolour gold, dating to 1997, and a perfect example of why earlier Trinity pieces are so sought after.
This is the classic three-band design in yellow, white and rose gold, each band a generous 4mm wide (the larger model), giving a bold yet fluid presence on the hand. When worn, the bands sit with a combined width of approx. 8.5mm, creating that signature rolling, sculptural effect Cartier is known for.
What makes this piece particularly special is the level of hallmarking, far more extensive than modern production. Each of the three bands bears French eagle head assay mark on the exterior, confirming 18ct gold and French assay. These external hallmarks are rarely seen on newer Trinity rings, which are typically only marked internally.
The yellow gold band is additionally stamped ‘750’ on the exterior, alongside a worn regional assay mark. Internally, the rose gold band is engraved ‘Cartier’, ‘750’, the size ‘52’, a © copyright mark and the date ‘1997’, alongside the original serial number ‘LH788 S’.
Also present is a lozenge-shaped maker’s mark with ‘C’ and ‘LF’ separated by a diamond and cross, with ‘Ste’ above, indicating manufacture within Cartier’s French workshop. These workshop marks are another detail often absent from more recent examples.
The overall feel is everything you want from a vintage Trinity: beautiful gold tones, subtle patina, and that unmistakable weight and fluidity that comes with earlier production.
An iconic design, but in a format that feels more characterful, and increasingly collectable.
